Welcome to the Gemstones-Loose Sapphire Page.
Here we present a sample of the truly versatile and diverse sapphire pieces we have available for your selection. Sapphire is a well-known precious gemstone and is a variety of the mineral corundum. The name sapphire is derived from the Latin "sapphirus" and is typically blue. However, unbeknownst to many, natural more exotic sapphires also occur in yellow, purple, orange, and green colors. There are also the "parti sapphires" which display two or more colors within the single stone. A fact of which most people are unaware, is that red corundum stones also occur, but this variety goes by the name of ruby! Pink-colored corundum may be classified either as ruby or sapphire depending on the location. Commonly, natural sapphires are cut and polished into gemstones and worn in jewellery. They are also the birthstone for the month of September. Our collection also includes a ready supply of Australian sapphires.
